So. The fire happened again last night. This time it was actually encroaching apon my house. (see above) Jesse, a fellow PCV, was staying we me for the last couple of nights, so there he is below taking in the sites. I am still not used to this fire thing.
ALSO! I am in the process of updating the website for my work. check it out!
bsspcares.givengain.org (which no longer exists--try our new website bhekuzulu.wordpress.com)
it's pretty snazzy. also for the record--i think that i may start having to take all my mail permanently at heather's work. it's annoying, but i'll get over it. my mail really doesn't reach me here. i think it's because the mailbox is actually in the village. so once it gets to estcourt THEN it goes to my village (whenever that may be) which I do not think is very often.
so, a reminder: the reliable address:
Heather O'Neil ,
C/O OADP,
PO Box 37
Bergville,
3350
South Africa
what you do is write my name on the back of the letter/package so she knows it's for me! i am so lucky to have heather in my life. you should thank her. maybe send her a present in my package! haha. thanks.
this weekend i am up to nothing special. i will be washing my clothes, which usually takes me about 2 hours. baaah. i hate washing by hand! also, i'll have you know, i am now a very industrious ironer (sp?) and am looking sharp most days. one day i tried to wear pants without ironing and my host was minorly horrified. i will not make that mistake again.
next weekend i am off to see friends for a couple of days. it should be fun! i like seeing people. its better than, oh say, being really lonely. haha.
have a good weekend!

I just looked at John's pictures.. They ARE fabulous! The pictures of landscape make it clear why it is that wise people made this a National Park. It would be so tempting for money makers to develop this landscape to within an inch of its life. The world can be grateful to those who have preserved this for all of us.
Therese, what does it feel like to remember all those years of trips to many zoos -- our own most often -- in your childhood, and then to be seeing all these animals in their habitat? I remember the fascination you had as a three and four and five and six year old for watching and "conversing with" baboons at the Cleveland Zoo. Amazing that you now see all this "in real life"!
Please explain to us blog readers why people in Estcourt and environs burn the land in winter. Does this burning have a purpose? Is it just for thrills? How do reasonable people plan to keep themselves safe?
Say thank you to your friend John for the pictures. Say thank you to your friend Jeff for keeping you in DVD's. You have some fabulous friends. LUCKY YOU!
