what a way to spend a friday

so i would have to say that today was the best day yet in the peace corps. i spent the day buying food for the drop in center with my host sister and her boyfriend, which was really fun. we talked all day and joked around. we went to this butchery where we bought meat and then took it out behind the store to the large brai pit (bbq pit) and while me an my host sister sat in the car, her boyfriend braiied the meat. next, we sat in the car and ate it with phutu (like cous cous but better). it was really cold today, so this was a fun treat.

at night we had a surprise party for her boyfriend (who lives here most of the time) to celebrate him being a police officer for 5 years. it was full of eating, talking and laughing hysterically, which is always nice. i felt, for once, not like an outsider, but someone people really wanted around--not because i am an oddity, but because i am cool and their friend. haha. i guess this is hard to understand if you don't live the life of being the only one of your culture for hundreds of KM.

after the guests left (all of whom were my coworkers, including my supervisor), me and my 17 and 6 yr old host sisters had a dance party. once i get to the office on monday i will post photos. pretty awesome. let me just tell you, 6 year olds can break it down better here than most americans can hope to in their lifetimes. i also took a video, which will be posted online once it makes its way to the US by mail.

today i wasn't homesick and i kept on having moments where i though: this is exactly why i came here--i really glad that i did this, which honestly doesn't happen all too often.

anyways, i am very very happy and feel content for once in a long while. hopefully this lasts. maybe this peace corps thing will work out...

also! in very exciting news--i got a new mailbox! i was getting (and still can get) my mail from heather, but if i don't see her for a couple of weeks after the stuff gets to her, it takes about a total of 6-8 weeks to get to me, which is outrageously long. instead, i will be using my host sister's box (why didn't i think of this before?). It is:

My Name
PO Box 78
Estcourt 3310
SOUTH AFRICA.

excellent! i am going to bed because all this eating and dancing has gotten me tired. good night!
